Close to home

With the economy still floundering, travel is not one of the priorities on people's list of needs. With the decrease in business activity, another reduction in staff at a sister company was needed to insure the survival of the whole. Today was Friday the 13th to many of my coworkers.
Having to lay people off is one of the most difficult tasks facing a human resources department. People with wonderful attitudes and work ethics have to be let go, valuable assets that will enhance another employer's staff. Through most of the day it was a quiet and somber atmosphere, which improved slightly as the day draws to a close.
To all the people that are no longer part of the team I wish the best of luck and I know you will do great wherever you land. You will be missed by the family that has remained.
